I heard of a theory of Yggdrassil being a yew because of its roots digging deep into Niflheim where it supplies itself with the poisonous waters beneath, making it similar to the yew in the way that it carries poison and that poison comes from Ginnungagap, the acosmic void from wich all cosmos came to exist first with Niflheim and Muspelheim, and the acosmic poison is there to doom the cosmic tree of life Yggdrasil as a plot made by Gullveig for the day of Ragnarok.
